How do you like to spend your free time? Or what do you wish you had more time to do?
I spend my free time making and creating – she loves to bake experimental-looking cakes and to create art pieces from magazines, paints, and found objects. I’m pretty adventurous, constantly looking for a new hobby -roller skating, horseback riding, creative writing, airbrushing, clothes making, etc!
Briefly describe your education and years of experience that qualify you to tutor your subject.
I graduated from Yale in 2019 with a B.S. degree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. During my studies, I really enjoyed the challenges of Biochemistry, Multivariable calculus, and physics. After working for 2.5 years as a Family Advocate for parents entrenched in the family court system in NYC, I’m passionate about understanding how abolition and transformative justice can help us create a future world that is free from racially unjust systems.
Why do you want to be a tutor/what do you enjoy most about working with students?
I love counseling students on their individual goals and adapting her teaching style to meet student’s unique learning styles. I believe in empowering students by breaking down complex concepts into easy-to-understand material and by helping them use their own strengths to grow as learners.
Describe a formative educational experience OR who was your favorite teacher and why?
During the summer before my final year of college, I traveled to Formosa, Argentina with my thesis advisor and several other peers for a nine-week research study into the social determinants of health for the native ‘Qom people. I really enjoyed working with my thesis advisor because she encouraged me to learn by talking to local people and observing real-world examples of what they learned in class.
What is the next Professional Development training/course you would like to do/take?
I would love to take a course on restorative justice and transformative justice mediation amongst court-involved people.
What is on your career “bucket list?
I would love to start my own custom cake business.
What truly inspires you?
I’m really inspired by the community around social justice initiatives and abolition work.
What’s one unusual thing about you that not many people know? This can be a skill, an experience – anything really.
I rollerskate! I am currently learning how to dance moves and tricks on the skates.
