Jacob Dunn
Tutor, Test Prep and Academic Subjects
Jacob Dunn brings a scientist’s rigor and a mentor’s heart to his work in test prep. A graduate of Baylor University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Medical Humanities, Jacob spent a year and a half on the MD track at Texas Tech’s School of Medicine before turning his focus to research. He went on to work as a Laboratory Specialist in the Biomedical Engineering department at the University of Virginia, where he gained hands-on experience in applied biology and, just as importantly, discovered his love for teaching and mentoring students.
It was in that lab, walking alongside students near the end of their college journeys, that Jacob found the part of the work he values most: helping students untangle difficult concepts and watching them finally connect the dots in subjects they once dreaded. He credits his parents, a pastor and a math teacher, for the servant-hearted approach he brings to every session, along with a high school physics and calculus teacher who treated him like a person first and a student second. Jacob strives to meet students where they are, with humility, patience, and grace. Outside of tutoring, he is an avid science fiction reader, a drummer who plays music with friends, and an amateur leatherworker. Ask him about the perfect game of baseball he witnessed in 2012, and he will be glad to tell you the story.
