Gabriella Petrick
Tutor, Test Prep and Academic Subjects
Gabriella M. Petrick, Ph.D. has spent more than 20 years in higher education, driven by a passion for mentoring students toward academic success and helping them find the career path that fits their interests and goals. Her academic credentials are extensive: she holds a Ph.D. in American history and the history of Industrialization and Technology as a Hagley Fellow from the University of Delaware, along with an AB in economics and history from the College of the Holy Cross, a General Course certificate in international economics and economic history from the London School of Economics, an AOS from the Culinary Institute of America, a master’s in management from the Cornell Hotel School, and master’s degrees in history from both Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Delaware.
Dr. Petrick has taught at institutions including New York University, George Mason University, the University of New Haven, and Boston University, with a focus spanning food studies, hospitality management, and food and beverage. More recently, she has held research positions at the University of Stavanger in Norway and Ruhr University Bochum in Germany, where her work centered on environmental and digital humanities. This breadth of experience across both academic and skill-based courses allows her to tailor her approach to many different types of learners. While she specializes in writing, research, and critical thinking, she also brings a strong grounding in STEM and management to her tutoring.
Having lived, studied, and worked across the UK, Canada, Australia, Italy, Norway, and Germany, Gabriella is a true citizen of the world, but Charlottesville is the only place she calls home. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, gardening, nature walks, travel, and Virginia wine.
