Tutor, Test Prep and Academic Subjects
1. How do you like to spend your free time? Or what do you wish you had more time to do?
I like to spend my free time writing and making music. I think there is always joy to be found in finding new ways to express yourself, and finding new sides of yourself to express.
2. Briefly describe your education and years of experience that qualify you to tutor your subject?
In high school I was in the MESA program at Albemarle High School, a STEM-based magnet school; I studied business for three semesters at the University of Virginia before transferring to NYU to pursue a degree in theatre and philosophy. Recently, I worked a job providing cognitive brain training to local students and adults. This wide base of knowledge allows me to connect with a variety of students and find examples relevant to their interests and understanding.
3. Why do you want to be a tutor/what do you enjoy most about working with students?
The thing I most enjoy about working with students is helping them gain mastery and control over subjects that previously felt impenetrable and uncomfortable. I aspire to be a tutor who makes even the most difficult and tedious topics interesting, fun, and worth learning.
4. Describe a formative educational experience OR who was your favorite teacher and why?
My middle school English teacher was a mentor for me as much as a teacher. She taught me the building blocks of writing and literature while holding me to a personal standard that was tough, but fair. Over time, I gained respect for myself, because of how she treated me.
5. What is the next Professional Development training/course you would like to do/take?
I am currently in the process of becoming a certified yoga instructor! I already am a licensed Reiki II practitioner and NASM-certified Strength and Flexibility Coach; movement and in-body comfort are a passion for me.
6. What is on your career “bucket list?”
Eventually, I want to start my own practice providing wellness treatment and guidance to my local community.
7. What truly inspires you?
I am truly inspired by honesty and vulnerability. It can be really difficult in this hyper-complex world to identify our feelings, and even harder to speak out on them; but these are the ways the world changes for the better.
8. What’s one unusual thing about you that not many people know? This can be a skill, an experience – anything really.
I am an accredited off-Broadway lyricist, for my work on the opening number of a 2019 dinner theatre production at The Secret Room NYC.
